Maulana Azad Library of the Aligarh Muslim University is the largest library system of India and second largest of Asia. Apart from normal collections, the library has about 16,000 rare manuscripts which attract the researchers and visitors from the whole globe. The library has its own two conservation and preservations labs where the rare documents are protected, preserved and conserved. The paper highlights the measures/techniques used by Maulana Azad Central Library of the AMU for conservation and preservation of the rare documents. It further investigates the recent measures and strategies used by this library to preserve its invaluable collection of manuscripts for the use of future generation. The paper also discusses about the hardware and software available for digitization in the library and how these are used.
